how to treat eczemaThis is the first part of the series where I will guide you on how to treat eczema. Eczema is a skin disease which affects people of any age. It is quite problematic too. A steroidal cream is smoothing what a doctor usually suggest but it has side effects on most people and does not work well always. But the good news is that by making a few lifestyle changes you can ease eczema symptoms such as itchiness and dry skin changes. Below are few tips that you can follow.

Tracking your lifestyle habits - Not every person suffers from eczema because of the same reason. While one person may be sensitive to something such as a deodorant, another person might be sensitive to something else. Since we can't exactly figure out this trigger for eczema, what you have to do is  keep a track your everyday habits like the kind of clothes you wear or the type of food you eat. By removing a habit one by one from your list you can try to find out the exact cause for eczema.

Another workaround is to go all natural and organic in the beginning and start adding your regular lifestyle and see if they trigger your eczema.

Wear clothes that does not irritate - Avoid itchy fabrics such as wool and try to wear loose, smooth textured clothes such as cotton and silk whenever possible. You can also vary your washing detergent as the residue left by these powders can also cause eczema. You can also switch to a washing detegent which is natural.

If you are an athlete or someone who hit the gym regularly then wear clothes that are specifically designed for sports use which can keep you cool are avoid excessive sweating which is also a cause for eczema.

Shampoos and soaps - Soaps, shampoos, detergents and any other related products contains chemicals that can irritate your skin and can also be a cause for eczema. Before buying any of these products you can try a sample pack to check if it causes any irritation or you can switch to natural products.

Products containing sodium lauryl sulfate and parabens are known to irritate and dry your skin. They kill off skin's natural proteins and make it vulnerable to disease and also cancer. So the next time you buy any chemical products check if such chemicals are present or not.
Keeping your house clean - As the name suggest keep your house clean from all kinds of seasonal pollens, pet dander, molds, dust mites, etc which known to cause eczema. Use a good quality vacuum cleaner to remove all kinds of dirt from your house.

Using humidifier - Your skin can be dehydrated because of dry air in your room and are known to cause eczema. What you can do in such situation is to buy a humidifier which can add moisture back in to the air and also to your skin. If you done like to invest on a humidifier you can also do gardening in your house. Plants are known to increase moisture in the air which is a natural humidifier.

Avoid stress - Studies have shown that stress is also linked to eczema, so doing activities that reduce your stress is going to benefit you in a great way in controlling eczema. Meditation, yoga or indulging in your hobbies are one of best ways to beat stress.

Use warm water for bathing - Do not use too hot or too cold water for bathing. Since bathing frequently is going to strip off your moisture from your skin you should try to restrict your bathing session to every 1 or 2 days with a maximum of 20 minutes per session as staying is bath for longer time can wither your skin. Also use a clean, dry towel after bath and pat yourself gently. Don't rub your skin hard.

Use a good moisturizer after your bath preferably while your skin is still damp as this will lock more moisture in your skin. Try to use a natural moisturizer. While not every person is the same, you can experiment and find the best one that works for you.
